Transitional Condo in Destin Florida

One of the exciting opportunities I have in my profession, and specifically at Lovelace Interiors, is collaborating on projects with other Interior Designers. We have an amazing time working together and most often it results in a thoroughly well executed design from concept to installation. Cara McBroom and I designed this beautiful beachfront transitional condo in Destin Florida in a building where Brittany Spears and Courtney Cox used to have beach homes. Cara discusses our project together in a “guest blog”! I hope you enjoy! Signature Beach Interior Design May 27, 2013 by caramcbroom This condominium was a delightful project that I had the pleasure of working on with fellow designer, Joey LaSalle! Our mission was to take this beautiful condo, which had some rather generic finishes and features, and remodel it in a way that would play up its best features (mainly the views!) and update the rest. We wanted to remain in keeping with the architecture of the building, which is more modern, and bring in some coastal elegance, with touches of rich luxury! The result is very beautiful, rich and restful… Living Area: [img_caption img=”http://joeylasalle.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/sig402-7.jpg” caption=”Welcome to the Living Room! JOEY’S TOP 13 DESIGN TRENDS OF 2013! #13:

Today when people are making any sort of investment, especially one as personal as their own home environment, they want the MOST bang for their buck! Interior Designers are expected to stay ahead of the trends, research, shop and source product, produce fresh concepts and ideas, problem solve according to the situations or lifestyles of the client, make incredible selections within the desired budget, install a dynamic newly designed room complete with all the bells and whistles of the latest in technology and home furnishings, be a mind reader, psychic, marriage counselor and have answers to every scenario, place orders, track orders, write contracts, attract new business, supervise all the subcontractors on a jobsite, meet all project deadlines, and deliver it all with a smile on their face and excellent customer service without a hair out of place….never let ‘em see you sweat, right? Multiply that by 6-10 projects that a Designer may have going simultaneously at any given time, and is it any wonder that a day in the life of an Interior Designer can get very complicated. You can easily see how it can take a tribe, and in 2013 many people investing in the design of their […]

JOEY’S TOP 13 DESIGN TRENDS OF 2013! #12: MASCULINITY!

(woot! woot!) I think we can all agree that we have been moving toward clean, sharp, if not more hard edged lines in both architecture and interior furnishings over the last several years. I have often said that Interior Design trends closely follow that of the fashion runways of Milan and Paris. So as a Designer I am always curious to see what the buzz is each year during Fashion Week. Major Fashion Designers like Ralph Lauren, Michael Kors, Hermes and Yves Saint Laurent used classic fabrics and patterns from Men’s Suiting in their Women’s collections this last Fall.     Thus, menswear has been popping up in interior design’s furniture, draperies, pillows and accessories for the home. Men’s suiting fabrics like pinstripes, houndstooth, plaids, wools and soft felted fabrics layer very nicely and add an instant classically tailored appeal. These patterns and textures are reintroduced nearly every year, so why wouldn’t they be sustainable and stand the test of time in interiors as well? Just in terms of practicality, these fibers are more durable and require less maintenance; and just like a suit you can change the whole look […]

DIGITAL MURALS! I know there will be quite a discussion on this one, as most of you cringe at the mention of the word “mural” ! You are probably remembering the popular Tahitian Beach scene of the 1970’s paired with dark wall paneling and a lava lamp….THIS IS NOT THAT! I admit it’s a delicate balance between the careful selection of your graphics and knowing where to use them to maximize the design impact without diminishing its “coolness”. (NOTE: Appropriately placed stunning visual art will always take a room to the next level!) The digital high resolution murals of today literally help transcend the space and expand the dimension of a room’s four walls. There is a tremendous selection available to choose from and large scale designs can be printed on a number of desirable mediums from vinyl wallpaper, to artist canvas and more. Whether you want a permanent fixture in a room or a look that can be easily refreshed, the choice is yours! Beautiful high resolution imagery and technological advances in graphic design have helped make digital murals big digs in 2013!

REFACE! There are so many hot features on trend for kitchens in 2013 that I could never fit them all into one post, but perhaps the biggest is cabinet refacing. There are two methods of refacing your cabinets, either by veneering or by painting. Refacing cabinets, not replacing is in because people are watching their budgets and refacing can be a minimal process by just changing cabinet doors while keeping the original cabinet structure. It’s a much less expensive option. The biggest determining factors when deciding whether to reface or replace are if you are satisfied with your existing kitchen layout and if your existing cabinet frames are in decent shape. Let’s talk Veneer. Veneering means that thin slices of wood are glued onto the core panels, and then can be stained whatever color you choose. Often it’s interpreted as a lesser quality version of the real thing and in some cases, this is true, but in fact, veneers have come a long way over the years. Exotic veneers and their striking patterns are found in today’s well-designed homes and create a clean, sleek styling. The other option is to paint your cabinets (but for most, not in […]

RECLAIMED WOOD! If everything in your home was bought at the same time and has nearly the same age to it, chances are you’re struggling to find ways to add character and charm to your interior. Reclaimed wood may be your answer! 2012 saw a surge of reclaimed/recycled wood case goods flood the market and this trend will continue through 2013! Generally crafted from the wood of deconstructed factories, barns and old houses, reclaimed wood furniture and accessories are finding new relevance inside our homes. Beyond the eco-responsibility of reusing materials, it’s indisputable that reclaimed wood brings beauty and character that nothing else can. Each piece’s imperfections make it unique…no two pieces are alike. In the modern era, with the luster of high gloss lacquers, shiny tiles, flashy wallpapers, sparkling crystal or glass light fixtures, the worn matte texture of reclaimed wood furniture and accessories help to ground the space and provide balance so that everything doesn’t feel so manufactured. These pieces are literally diamonds in the rough and help balance new with old. Now that reclaimed wood goes beyond flooring and has extended to wall installations, furniture and accessories, as with most of the Trends I’ve talked about this […]

WRAPPED FURNITURE! So many furniture companies are offering an assortment of wrapped casegoods in 2013. Nothing adds a sophisticated eclecticism quite like an upholstered dresser or side table in a room. It automatically evokes a sense of contemporary whimsy whether wrapped in leather, linen, stainless, zinc, shagreen (sharkskin) or even burlap! You may not have paid attention to it before, but now you’ll defintiely recognize just how much this trend is catching on!

GRAPHIC PRINTS & PATTERNS! A very big trend within the textile industry in fashion and interiors is digital prints on fabric and wall covering. Drab, dull and overly neutral rooms are getting their energy shot in the arm with bold graphic patterns and prints in 2013. From accessory pillows to wallcover, draperies to throw blankets, it’s the design that’s the design! Not all have to be in neon bright colors either as there are plenty of metallic or tone on tone options available as well. Layering the prints can be tricky but for instance, bold patterned pillows on a classic line, tailored neutral sofa can define the personality of the entire room!
